Alternate Insulin Delivery Systems:

BD Ultra-Fine Nano 4mm Pen Needles with EasyFlow Technology

EasyFlow Technology makes it easier to inject insulin because it increases the flow rate by up to 149% compared to competitive pen needles. A study published today in Clinical Therapeutics on EasyFlow Technology found that:

·         61% of patients who used EasyFlow Technology reported needing less thumb force to inject;

·         49% of patients reported less time to inject than with their usual pen needle; and

·         the majority of people who tried EasyFlow preferred it to their current pen needle on all three leading brands.

The new needle with EasyFlow Technology has earned the Arthritis Foundation Ease-of-Use Commendation, which recognizes products that make life easier for people with arthritis and other limitations.

The I-PORT™ is applied with an insertion needle by guiding a cannula (a soft and fl exible tube) under the surface of the skin. Once applied, the insertion needle is removed and a thin, hypoallergenic layer of adhesive holds the device in place. Using a syringe or insulin pen, medication may be injected into the I-PORT™ for up to 72 hours through an elastic septum located on the surface of the device. During injection, the needle of the syringe or insulin pen does not penetrate the surface of the skin while the medication is delivered from the syringe through the cannula and directly into the subcutaneous tissue.  Not currently available in Canada!
